The Start Line Project
We are excited to announce a new initiative for Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB: The Start Line Project, with the goal of increasing the number of women at the Speedgoat 50K start line. We’re collaborating with Women of the Wasatch, Women of the Wasatch (WoW) a Utah-based nonprofit dedicated to breaking down barriers to equity in trail running, in order to reach this goal.
The Speedgoat 50K is an iconic, yet challenging, race and we want to help break down barriers so that more women can join the fun!
Why The Start Line?
The start line represents more than a race. It represents access, belonging, courage, and possibility. For many women, the barriers to standing on a start line aren’t physical - they’re structural: lack of representation, access, community, childcare, mentorship, safety, visible pathways into sport.
Our long-term vision is to continue growing participation year over year by intentionally building systems of access, support, and inclusion until women and non-binary runners are meaningfully represented across the field.
How We'll Get There
With the incredible support of Women of the Wasatch, we’re rolling out a series of programs designed to educate, connect, and empower women throughout their Speedgoat journey:
Race Scholarships
Women of the Wasatch has selected 5 incredible women to receive a scholarship into the Speedgoat 50K. These women all have moving stories, and we can’t wait to share more about their journey to this year’s Speedgoat 50K.
Women’s Webinars
We’ll be hosting a series of webinars (topics geared towards women, but we invite all to join!) in the coming weeks as we get closer to race weekend. Keep an eye out for topics and dates to be announced soon.
Women’s Discord Channel
WoW is hosting a Discord Channel for women to join. In this channel, you can ask questions, seek advice, find running buddies, etc. We encourage women to join this inclusive space to help feel more comfortable as you’re training for your big Speedgoat race! You don’t have to be registered for the 50K to join the channel – all race distances are welcome. You can join the channel here.
Pre-Race Weekend Training Runs
WoW will be working with our Partners to host multiple Pre-Race Weekend Training Runs on June 20 and July 11. More details to come, so check back as we approach race weekend!
Childcare Support
Snowbird Ski Resort offers childcare and the facility has offered to extend their normal hours during race weekend to allow parents to race!
Onsite support during Basecamp
WoW will host a booth on Thursday, July 23rd at Basecamp. Stop by to ask any questions, get some race-day glitter, or generally just connect with other women passionate about trail running!
